Located in the South Rift of Kenya, Narok County covers approximately 17933 km2 and a population of about 1,312,287 as of 2023 with Maasai forming a majority of the ethnic group alongside Kalenjins, Kikuyus, and others. Notable natural features include the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the Mau Forest Complex, and the Mara River. Narok is predominantly rural with urban centers like Narok town and Kilgoris growing.
Narok has a robust ecological system, relying on resources like the Mau Forest Complex for agriculture, tourism, and water supply. The main economic activities are: Agriculture (barley, Wheat, and Maize and Livestock rearing), Tourism (Maasai Mara National Park), Mining, and Trade. The famous Maasai Mara Game Reserves plays host to the wild beast migration which is one of the 7 wonders of the world. Narok is part of the Narok-Kajiado Economic Block (NAKAEB), which aims to enhance agriculture, livestock production, wildlife and cultural tourism, mining, environmental conservation, and conferencing. Narok County has 218 health facilities 31 being FBOs, 123 MoH, 55 private,7 NGO, 1 Community, and 1 parastatal.
Administratively, the county has 8 sub-counties (Narok Central, Narok North, Narok East, Narok West, Narok South, Trans Mara East, Trans Mara West, and Trans Mara South) which are further divided into 25 divisions the largest being Narok West with a total of 5,452.7 km2
